Whilst refurbishing Lupton House, owners, Anna and Malcolm have managed to maintain the characterful elements of the original farm workers’ cottage whilst building to the highest levels of environmental performance. The walls and windows are super-insulated, water is heated by solar panels, electricity is generated by photovoltaic panels and rain water is collected for use in the main house.
The Oak Room was built by two local companies and the room’s solid oak floors were also supplied and fitted by a local family business.
Much of the furniture is antique or reclaimed and any catered food is either home-grown organically, locally sourced or fairly traded.
Plastic soap dispensers are nowhere to be seen. Rather, stone soap dispensers are re-stocked with lavender hand-wash made on a local lavender farm and bought in bulk.
Ten pounds from every booking goes towards supporting orphaned children in India.
